Eva Cheney-Hatcher is a respected Attorney and Qualified Rule 114 Neutral with over 27 years of experience. She graduated from Sioux Falls University in South Dakota, Summa Cum Laude, with degrees in English and Business. She was a member of the Honors Society, and named as an Outstanding College Student of America. She attended the University of South Dakota School of Law where she earned her Juris Doctorate, was awarded the American Jurisprudence Award for Legal Research and Writing, a Law School Foundation Academic Scholarship, and was recognized by the Who’s Who Among American Law Students. Ms. Cheney-Hatcher has been recognized as a Super Lawyer and Top Women Attorneys since 2015.
Ms. Cheney-Hatcher was admitted to the South Dakota Bar in 1991 and practiced in several areas of law, including family law, business law, probate, estate planning, bankruptcy, real estate, criminal law, and administrative law. In 1999, she relocated to Pennsylvania and was admitted to the Pennsylvania Bar that same year and worked for the Bureau of Professional & Occupational Affairs as legal counsel to several professional licensing boards. In 2001, Ms. Cheney-Hatcher was admitted to the Minnesota bar. For the past 16 years she has practiced family law exclusively. She is an experienced trial attorney, and has represented clients with complex marital estates, financial issues, and custody disputes.
Ms. Cheney-Hatcher is also an experienced Qualified Rule 114 Neutral and focuses her practice soley in the area of Alternative Dispute Resolution. She began providing Mediation services in 1995 after she obtained her original 40-hour Family Law Mediation Training. Since that time, she has completed additional, extensive training and continuing education in the areas of Civil Law Mediation, Family Law Mediation, Employment Law Mediation, Elder Law Mediation, Multi-Party Dipsute Resolution, Arbitration, Consensual Special Magistrate, Custody Evaluations, Parenting Consultant, and High Conflict Dispute Resolution. In 1997 and 1998 she was chosen by the American Bar Association to receive Peer Mediation training, a pilot program to bring mediation into high schools. Ms. Cheney-Hatcher was one of three professionals who developed and implemented the first Peer Mediation program in a South Dakota high school setting. She provides a variety of services for resolving issues without the financial and emotional cost of trial. As a Neutral, she assists parties as a Mediator, Arbitrator, Early Neutral Evaluator, Parenting Consultant, Parenting Time Expeditor, Custody Evaluator, and Consensual Special Magistrate.
Ms. Cheney-Hatcher is currently licensed in Minnesota, South Dakota and Pennsylvania in both state and federal courts. She is a member of the American Bar Association; the Minnesota Bar Association; the Minnesota State Bar Association-Alternative Dispute Resolution Section; Dakota County Bar Association; First District Bar Association, and South Dakota Bar Association. She is also a member of the Association of Family and Conciliation Courts (AFCC), (both National and State organizations) an interdisciplinary and international association of professionals dedicated to the resolution of family conflict. Ms. Cheney-Hatcher also lectures on topics pertaining to family law, mediation, and alternative dispute resolution.
Committed to giving back to her community, Ms. Cheney-Hatcher has participated in numerous organizations and local projects over the course of her professional career, and continues to do so through the present time.
